High Street Shopping
Shoppers have been telling us that they are fed up with empty shops in the Town Center. Some residents are confused to why Freshney place is trying to expand its offer to include a cinema and restaurants. Its seems to us that the town centre needs to offer a more “cultural” experience and research has backed this argument. Saying that without more to offer the high street will die by a thousand cuts. Your Labour council has helped the owners of freshney place, so that the cultural experience can be achieved to help save our town centre. This approach by the council should be applauded.
In the mean time the Tory Government has a lot to answer for. Their refusal to extract corporate tax off internet shopping sites, means High street shops are at a competative disadvantage with internet shopping sites, driving them out of business. Locally the Tory Government are doing their best to stagnate our economy some examples are; The Council has had its budget slashed by £80 million, NHS pay freezes, Police buget cuts, not only less Police but less wages. The great Tory Con of inhibiting wages after the crash of 2008. All taking money out of the economy, people of Grimsby have less money to spend. Hence disposible incomes are down, shops struggling to survive, loss of jobs in the retail business and the vicious circle continues…
Yes Grimsby Labour Party hopes and wishes that the expanded freshney place will be successful!
