Offshore wind is creating jobs in grimsby..

Grimsby should be happy to hear the prime minister’s speech today, he was full of his usual bluster saying that all energy will be from renewable sources by 2030. But a word of caution, we can’t trust what he says! where is our world class track and trace system? that he promised in his usual style!

And today’s announcement is big on style but sorely lacking in substance. Ambition is important but it’s useless without a proper plan and package of proposals to deliver it.

Boris Johnson has said,”offshore wind will heat every home and power every kettle and washing machine”, but the target he outlines – 40GW – is less than half of the total capacity we would need by the early 2030s

Ed Miliband MP, Shadow Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary, responding to the Government’s offshore wind announcement, said:

“Nothing in the Prime minister’s re-announcement today on wind energy targets will tackle the immediate jobs crisis our country faces. We need ambition on renewable energy, but Boris Johnson rarely delivers on his rhetoric.”

“The funding announced today spread over ten years is a drop in the ocean, and pales in comparison to the investment by France and Germany in green jobs.”

“The Government must urgently bring forward a genuinely ambitious green recovery that will create jobs now on the scale needed to meet the challenge of the climate emergency and unemployment crisis.”

Grimsby needs a  prime minister who is a details person, that can lead a government that delivers on its promises, not a person who blows plenty of hot air then forgets his promises and moves on with more hot air!
