The North East Lincolnshire Labour group calls on the Conservative cabinet to rethink and review the recent decision to close the community learning service. Such a decision cannot be taken lightly, and new information that has come to light that could have fundamentally altered the outcome of the original decision and needs to be considered, namely that:
- A recent Ofsted report has identified areas of significant and reasonable progress, in areas such as the quality of teaching delivered.
- The Original consultation did not involve service users and families, their views and suggestions must be considered before any final decision is made.
- Some of the statistics used in the original decision have been brought into dispute, including but not limited to the number of service users effected and financial figures involved.
- Conversations with third party education providers show that they need to be re-engaged and brought back to discuss a much more collaborative approach.
We believe that the portfolio holder for skills and regeneration should reconsider this decision, extend the consultation time and scope, to include all those affected. Working proactively with the community with the aim of keeping the CLS open.
