If you haven’t already received one through your letterbox, you will be shortly getting an impressive looking publication from North East Lincolnshire Council. Entitled “Discover our new future”, it details much of what the council have being doing of late, including developments around Grimsby Minister and the Riverhead. Mention is also given of what could happen under the Cleethorpes Masterplan.
All very well and good you might think. People need to be informed what the council is up to, especially when fewer buy the “Grimsby Telegraph” and not everyone has internet access.
But! Well much of the booklet reads like the kind of tourist brochure that you used to pick up at libraries and other public places. We though don’t need a one-sided telling of how wonderful Grimsby are Cleethorpes are, for we live here! So why a blanket delivery to every household?
Now this is where the cynic in me kicks in. For I’m writing this on March 2nd, with the local elections just over 2 months away. This therefore couldn’t be a means of disseminating propaganda before purdah begins, and the body politic of NELC has to appear neutral, could it?
I mean the Cabinet member responsible for Tourism has his photo printed, as does the Council Leader. So, don’t let the wool be pulled over your eyes. Wait for the election material to hear the other side of the argument that the Tories aren’t so keen to highlight. Such as the money wasted on the Palm Tree that never was, or the expansion of a Car Park which never gets full.
