The 6th of September will see a special Council meeting to discuss a Tory motion to further cut Council Tax support for some of our most vulnerable residents.
The changes we introduced following the Council meeting in December last year were a fine tuning of the way we support those who are most under the threat of poverty, but this scatter-gun Tory approach again highlights their callous dismissal of many of our most vulnerable residents.
Their Government has blighted local councils and the people we serve in particular with years of draconian cuts driven by a pernicious and ill conceived austerity ideology which has already seen one of their own Conservative Councils go bust, and yet this ideology that people will cope, come what may, persists in their mindset.
These people they are looking to hit with this motion are right on the edge of “getting by’’ and as such, we should not support it and be in any way responsible for pushing them over the edge- which I fear will be the result in some cases if we allow their Motion to succeed. Your local Labour party has a conscience, that those proposing this motion, are clearly incapable of and we reject the proposal.
