Kath Wheatley, Leader of the Labour Group on North East Lincolnshire Council, is poised to deliver a pivotal speech at the full council meeting tomorrow [Thursday 28th September] highlighting grave concerns over the Council’s mismanagement and lack of transparency under the Conservative Leader, Councillor Jackson.

Councillor Wheatley will expose the ongoing avoidance of accountability within the Council and illuminate the serious ramifications of his leadership failures, including the proposed closure of nurseries, the suspension of refuse collection, and the substantial £7 million overspend just 12 weeks into the year.

In a preview of her speech, Councillor Wheatley states, “This is not a petty political game; this is about addressing the significant and ongoing failures in leadership and management that are directly impacting our communities, compromising service quality, and corroding trust in local governance.”

Councillor Wheatley will challenge Councillor Jackson to answer for his administration’s fiscal irresponsibility, emphasising the urgent need for transparency on recovery plans and their implications on the community.

She will also call attention to the adverse effects of the government’s neglect of local councils.

Councillor Wheatley is set to demand an immediate independent financial audit and stress test, and the implementation of contingency plans to amend the financial overspend. “The time for deflections and blame is over. We demand clarity, responsibility, and a unified front to address and rectify the mismanagement plaguing our Council,”.

Councillor Wheatley remains steadfast in her commitment to the well-being and progress of North East Lincolnshire and urges unity and collective responsibility to realign the Council’s actions with the interests of its communities.
